
A local man is facing fraud charges after a wallet was stolen from a parked vehicle in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a report of theft and fraud on May 6 at around 9:20 a.m. on Grand Avenue East. The victim reported that his wallet had been stolen from a parked vehicle and that there had been several unauthorized transactions on his financial accounts.
Authorities said stolen credit cards had been used to make various purchases at local businesses. Following an investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Officers located and stopped the suspect on Ursuline Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The 48-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and is now charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
The accused has been taken to the Southwest Detention Centre and will remain in custody pending his next court appearance.
