Storage Facility Given Municipal Green Light

New life is finally being breathed into a vacant section of the Thames Lea Plaza in Chatham.

Ever since Target left Chatham in 2015, a large part of the space the department store used to occupy has been sitting empty.

At their meeting held on Monday night, Chatham-Kent council approved a rezoning proposal by the owners of the shopping plaza to allow for indoor public storage within the building.

The frontage of the building will eventually allow for retail/commercial usage while using a large part of the vacant building for public storage, which will allow for the long-term viability of the shopping plaza, said Ryan Jacques, who is the director of planning services for Chatham-Kent.
