Stray Tire Causes Damage To Police Cruiser

Charges have been laid after a tire detached from a moving vehicle and struck a police cruiser in Wallaceburg.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said an officer was conducting a traffic stop on Margaret Avenue at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, when the tire struck their police cruiser, causing damage.

No injuries were reported.

Upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle that lost its tire, the officer noticed signs of impairment and conducted a roadside breath test. The driver was then arrested and taken to police headquarters for additional testing.

As a result, a 46-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was later released from custody with a future court date.
