An artist-driven event is returning to downtown Chatham to celebrate street art and revitalize public spaces.
CK Can Jam will see 15 internationally renowned street artists transform walls around the downtown area into vibrant, large-scale murals. This year’s event will also see more local talent.
“We heard the community last year. They thought that we were lacking some community artists, so we brought in four locals,” said organizer and artist Sarah Steele.
The week-long event will take place from August 10-17 and will feature live painting, public art tours, and family-friendly activities.
This will mark the second year for CK Can Jam, which is led by Steele, a multidisciplinary artist based in Chatham-Kent. The 2025 event is also supported by several community partners, volunteers, and Chatham-Kent councillors.
Looking to the future, Steele said she could see the mural event expanded to other communities within the municipality.
“I thought that we could start in Chatham and then next year maybe, we could have a home base in Chatham, but five artists that go to Wallaceburg, five artists that go to Dresden… and see if we could all shuttle out and shuttle back, she said. “We’ve got plans.”
