Student Art And Indigenous Artist To Be Focus Of New Exhibition

An Indigenous artist and local high school students are being celebrated for their collaboration and creativity.

The Thames Art Gallery will host a reception on Friday at 7 p.m. to celebrate the opening of a pair of exhibitions — “powerlines in the distance” by Anishinaabe artist Michael Belmore and “HERE I AM,” an exhibition showcasing the work of Chatham-Kent high school students in Grades 9–12.

Attendees will have the chance to cast their votes for two People’s Choice Awards, which will be presented during the reception. A  $1,000 Art Scholarship Award, donated by Cathy Van Raay-Myers, will also be presented.

“HERE I AM” will remain on display from April 4 to June 1, while “power lines in the distance” is on display until June 29.
