Suspension notices have been issued to hundreds of students in Chatham-Kent because their immunization records aren’t up to date.
Public Health Nurse Dan Droulliard says there have been some changes to the types of shots students need to have.
“There’s been a couple of different antigens added to the Immunization to School Pupils act, such as the meningitis vaccine, typically given in Grade 7,” says Droulliard. “The second being chicken pox protection for anybody born after 2010.”
Anyone who has opted out of receiving vaccinations for religious or philosophical reasons must provide a notarized affidavit.
However, in the event of an outbreak at school, any child that has not been vaccinated will be held out of class until the outbreak has subsided.
Parents looking to update their child’s immunization records can call the immunization intake line at 519-355-1071 x5900.
