Students across Chatham-Kent and Lambton County are being invited to take part in an annual reading challenge.
The second annual Clash of the Classrooms is hosted by the Chatham-Kent Public Library and Lambton County Library in hopes of strengthening students’ love of reading.
The competition is open to elementary, secondary, and homeschool classes, and runs from February 5 to March 8, earning badges for reaching reading milestones and completing activities. Any time students spend reading inside and outside the classroom can be added to class reading totals.
The two elementary classes and one high school class from each region with the most minutes read will win a pizza party. As well, one elementary school, one high school, and one homeschool group from each region will win a cash prize for the most collective minutes read.
New this year, the municipalities are going head-to-head! The top elementary school and top high school across both regions will get their name added to the Clash Cup. The trophy will be displayed at the library location closest to the school.
Teachers can register their class online through Beanstack, a web-based service that allows individuals and groups to easily track their reading progress. For more information and step-by-step instructions on how to sign up, visit lclibrary.ca/clash.
