Several events are taking place over the next celebrate 100 years of women’s suffrage.
On April 12th, 1917, Ontario women earned the right to vote in provincial and municipal elections.
The Chatham-Kent Museum’s Assistant Curator, Kate Rosser-Davies, says a poster-making workshop is being held at ArtSpace on the afternoon of Saturday, May 6th.
“Join local artist Laurie Langford to explore some of the artwork that was used in the suffrage movement and create some of their own,” says Rosser-Davies. “Anybody that is aged 10-29 votes for women contest for a chance to win $500 in gift cards.”
Also, a pop-up exhibit is currently on display at the Chatham branch of the library, featuring the history of women’s rights in Ontario and the stories of some of the first local women to enter the political fray.
