Summit To Address Lack Of Attainable Housing

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent and local realtors are teaming up to find solutions to the lack of attainable housing in the community.

The Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors, along with the municipality, will be hosting an Attainable Market Housing Summit on November 29 at the Chatham Capitol Theatre.

The one-day summit will bring together sector advocates, builders, planners, and financial experts who will take part in panel interviews and discussions aimed at developing attainable housing solutions in Chatham-Kent.

According to the municipality, the resale price of homes in Chatham-Kent increased by 123 per cent between December 2018 and September 2022.

“This sharp increase has made homeownership unfeasible for many residents. In turn, access to market rental units became competitive, reducing vacancy rates to the lowest levels ever seen in Chatham-Kent,” the municipality said in a news release.

Those interested in attending the summit will be able to reserve tickets in early November on the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website.
