SUNDAY THOUGHT: Misguided Love

Misguided Love

By: Pastor Brian Horrobin

Many years ago when I was a grade 10 student in high school the Valentine’s dance was quickly approaching. There was a girl in grade 9 who was on our school’s cross country team, whom I had my eye on at that time.

On the day of the dance our student council had a fundraiser whereby students could purchase red or yellow roses and have them sent to someone in another class, along with a special note.

The red roses indicated ‘true love’ while the yellow ones signified a ‘secret admirer.’ This was my chance! I purchased some yellow roses, as a secret admirer, and sent them to Karen with a simple note: “See you at the dance.”

I waited quite a while but Karen never showed up that night and I later found out that she was on a date with her boyfriend. Talk about a colossal failure!

Thankfully, God’s love is nothing like that. He will never let you down. Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Whether you have a hot date planned for this Valentine’s Day or a lonely night on the couch in your pajamas watching Netflix and eating a carton of Haagen Daz, it makes no difference.

God has set His love upon you and He’s not letting go! He won’t stand you up at the dance!
