A local insurance company is doing what it can to ease Chatham-Kent’s housing crunch.

North Kent Mutual spokesman Dean Muhharem says the company is donating $30,000 to the Opportunity Villages Community Land Trust.

“It’s going to bring affordable housing to Chatham-Kent, high quality, affordable small homes made available below market value,” Muhharem says. “It’s going to answer one of our biggest needs and we’re very, very happy to support that.”

The non-profit agency is working on building 30 housing units between Taylor Avenue and Memory Lane, just off Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

The Brickworks development will include single detached, duplex, and triplex homes to be sold at roughly 10% below market value.
