Students at the St Clair Catholic District School Board will be getting a little extra help with their math assignments this year.
Thanks to provincial funding, the board has hired Jamie Majeski as Assistant Superintendent to support student engagement and achievement in mathematics from kindergarten through grade 12.
In April, the province announced a $180-million dollar plan to hire one math lead per school board to spearhead math curriculum implementation and standardize training, and provide additional supports for math coaches in the classrooms.
Majeski has held a wide variety of positions, including classroom teacher, department head of mathematics, numeracy support teacher, student success numeracy lead, K-12 Catholic curriculum consultant and secondary vice principal. In addition, he has written ministry curriculum and supported EQAO with both question creation and student assessments.
“Jamie brings to this new role a wealth of experience, working in mathematics instruction and learning,” said Scott Johnson, Director of Education in a news release. “In this new portfolio, Jamie will work with school administration, classroom teachers, the Ministry of Education, EQAO and the Board’s senior team to support school and board improvement planning in math.”
