The Ontario government is setting aside $10-million for horse racing programs to support breeders and horsepeople.

The new program, dubbed, HIP or Horse improvement program, replaces the Enhanced Horse Improvement Program previously administered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

In addition as of Apr 1st a new OLG  agreement includes funding for racetrack operations and purse support of up to $105 million per year for up to 19 years.

It’s not clear at this point how the funding will affect operations at the Dresden Raceway. A message left with the Dresden Agricultural Society was not returned at the time of publishing.
