A London man is facing a long list of charges in connection with a stolen vehicle and a break-and-enter in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said an officer was on general patrol at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday when they were notified by an Automated License Plate Recognition system of a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The officer attempted to approach the vehicle while it was parked, but the driver took off and police did not pursue it.

A short time later, the vehicle was located on Queen Street in Chatham and a man was seen running into nearby backyards.

Additional officers were called in and a perimeter was set up in the area. The police canine unit also attended the scene and helped to track the man to a residential garage, which had been broken into.

As a result, a 37-year-old London man was arrested and is now charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and break-and-enter. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
