An off-duty Chatham-Kent Police officer has been arrested in Leamington.
According to Essex County OPP, the accused was pulled over on Highway 3 shortly after 9 Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old driver, who has since been identified as Chatham-Kent Constable Trent Fox, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, dangerous operation, and resisting a peace officer.
He was also issued a 90-day license suspension and had his vehicle impounded for seven days. Fox, who has only been with the Chatham-Kent Police Service for two years, has been suspended with pay. Authorities say an internal investigation will be conducted following the completion of the charges before the courts.
Fox was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court next week to answer to the charges.
