A complaint about a suspected drunk driver has landed charges for a Chatham woman.

Police received a tip just before 9:30 last night about a vehicle heading east on Longwoods Road, towards Thamesville.

The suspect vehicle was found and stopped, and the arresting officer suspected the woman behind the wheel was under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities say the woman did not have a valid driver’s license and was bound by a release order prohibiting her from even sitting in the drivers’ seat of a vehicle.

The accused was taken to the local OPP detachment for tests. The 53-year-old has since been charged with various offences, including impaired driving and driving with a suspended license.

She was released with conditions and a date in court later this month.
