Sydenham River Water Levels Receding

In a recent statement from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, the level of water on the Sydenham River and its tributaries are receding.

While light rain is expected for the rest of the day, the SCRCA says this will have little impact on flooding near the Sydenham.

The SCRCA has started the opening procedure for the gates at the McKeough Dam as water levels there are stable. The gates will be opened gradually until the north branch can safely flow through Wallaceburg.

Officials say, “localized flooding continues along the main branches of the Sydenham River and its major tributaries. Many roads remain closed due to flooding in St. Clair and Enniskillen Township, and in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.”

The SCRCA will continue to monitor the flood condition of the watersheds in the region.

Meanwhile, Chatham-Kent and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is monitoring the flooding situation in Thamesville and Chatham.
