Talks To Resume Between Canada Post, Worker’s Union

The union representing postal workers across the country is set to return to the bargaining table with Canada Post this week following the rejection of the national mail carrier’s final offers.

Canada Post said its bargaining team will meet with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) on Friday to resume good faith discussions with the assistance of federal mediators.

The Crown Corporation has asked the union to present its response to its “best and final offers” that were first presented in May, and which postal workers rejected in a vote earlier this month.

“The company looks forward to receiving a detailed and comprehensive response from CUPW that addresses the real, significant and increasing challenges faced by the postal service,” Canada Post said in a news release. “While negotiations remain unresolved, there remains an urgent need to modernize Canada Post and protect this vital national service for Canadians.”

Canada Post and CUPW have remained at a significant impasse since December 2024, despite 19 months of negotiations, four global offers, mediation, and an Industrial Inquiry Commission.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty at Canada Post, customers across Canada have been using other delivery companies, causing parcel volumes to drop and financial losses to spike.

In June, Canada Post reported $10 million in operational losses per day, which is more than double the daily average losses in June 2024. In 2024, the Crown Corporation posted an operating loss of nearly $1.3 billion.
