Chatham-Kent Council has put off making any changes to municipal taxes until next year.

Municipal officials were slated to discuss recommendations to modernize Chatham-Kent tax rates at last night’s meeting, as well as possibly adjusting the farm property class tax rate to bring it more in-line with the majority of the province.

The Kent Federation of Agriculture says both reports would have significant negative implications for rural Chatham-Kent and more relevant information was needed before council could make a decision.

The KFA asked council to defer both reports.

Council voted to have the reports come back to council in the future after public consultation and with representatives from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) attending so they can present up-to-date reassessment information for council.
