Taxes seem to be on the minds of a number of area residents these days.
Mayor Darrin Canniff says it’s the main issue citizens want to discuss with him, and it’s one he takes very seriously.
“We’re working real hard to find as many efficiencies as possible but keep the tax increase relatively low.”
One thing that won’t be coming up during budget deliberations in 2021 is the contentious issue of rural vs agricultural taxes.
“There’s going to be discussion in the spring to talk about the 22% vs 25%,” Canniff says. “Basically the agricultural tax is 22% of what an urban tax is. There will be discussion there, but we’re waiting until probably late spring or early summer to talk about that.”
The first budget information night, including recommendations from municipal administration, is being held virtually on January 13th and will be broadcast on YourTV.
