Chatham-Kent Council has unanimously approved moving forward with the revitalization of Taylor Park in Chatham.
The second phase of the park upgrades includes walkways and recreational amenities and continuing the use of Clarke Construction Inc., the same company that installed new basketball courts at the park last year.
In his report, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Robert Pollock explains that the Taylor Park Revitalization Committee “is dedicated to implementing enhancement projects at Chatham’s Taylor Park to attract and retain youth and preserve the history associated with the park.”
Improvements will include a hard surface along the east side of the pool with four benches and an accessible hard surface extension along the play area with concrete chess and ping pong tables. There will also be an accessible pathway upgrade to the existing sidewalk leading to the pool, a Gagaball pit with concrete pad, and a five-foot fence along the north side of the basketball court.
All enhancements will be covered by the Revitalization Committee, with Clarke Construction Inc. providing some labour and materials to the Committee in-kind.
Pollock writes in his report that “this project will better encourage congregation for recreational purposes as well as improve park accessibility for those with physical disabilities or mobility limitations.”
