TD Bank officials say they are working to reverse unauthorized charges to local accounts, effecting many customers in Chatham-Kent.
On Friday, local TD Bank customers expressed concern after an apparent widespread issue affecting their bank balance.
Customers say accounts appear to be hacked, but not with the usual credit card fraud.
This time, attention has turned to debit cards, including chequing and savings accounts.
Purchases are said to appear to come from Amazon.
We have been notified of similar issues at other local institutions. However, the vast majority seem to be connected to TD.
In a statement sent to the 99.1 news room, TD Bank expressed concern for the issue.
“It’s concerning to hear when any customer falls victim to fraud and we recognize that in addition to the financial impact, these situations can be stressful for individuals. While this instance of fraud appears to impact a limited number of customers locally, we continue to look into the issue raised and will work directly with customers to reverse any unauthorized charges as quickly as possible. If a customer has experienced an unusual or unauthorized transaction on their account, we ask that they please contact us by phone at 1-866-808-7090 so we can investigate. “
TD says customers can sign up for TD Fraud Alerts, which notifies customers if TD detects suspicious transactions made on their personal bank account through their TD Access Card or their TD Credit Cards.
