82 of 111 Lambton Kent District School Board teachers have been spared from the chopping block.
In April the board informed 111 teachers, both elementary and secondary, that they were facing layoffs.
At the time the board needed more info regarding funding levels and retirements/resignations, but had to send the layoff notices out due to contract obligations.
Now the board is announcing the recall of 82 of them, evenly split between high school and grade school teachers.
The board says declining enrollment will continue to be an issue going forward, which will act to reduce the number of teachers in the board, and will reduce the diversity of programming in rural schools.
