A teenager is facing charges after allegedly brandishing a weapon at a Chatham high school.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to Chatham-Kent Secondary School (CKSS) on McNaughton Avenue East at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday after students saw someone pull what appeared to be a handgun from his waistband in the parking lot of the school.
As a precaution, CKSS, King George VI Public School and McNaughton Avenue Public School were all placed under lockdown while officers conducted an investigation.
Police were able to locate a suspect at a residence in Chatham who was in possession of a pellet gun.
As a result, a 16-year-old youth was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and pointing a firearm. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the schools or the surrounding community.
