A teenage driver is facing charges after a truck ended up in the St. Clair River.

Emergency crews were called to the river near Marlborough Lane Friday evening with reports saying a truck with two people inside was sinking.

The two occupants were able to break a window to escape and made it safely to shore.

Sarnia Fire Rescue and the Point Edward Fire Department assisted a local tow company and the truck was removed from the River.

The 16-year-old driver is now facing charges of careless driving and being a Class G1 license holder without being accompanied by a qualified driver.

Authorities say a conviction could come with a range of fines and a 30-eay license suspension.

The Sarnia Police Services is still investigating the incident and is looking to speak with any witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Rich Scott at 519-344-8861 ext. 6217 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you wish to remain anonymous.
