Some labour peace in the ongoing dispute between the province and teachers across Ontario.

A tentative deal has been reached with the union representing English Catholic teachers, although specifics have yet to be released, pending ratification.

The deal makes OECTA the first of the four major teachers’ unions to reach an agreement in a highly contentious round of bargaining.

“The time is now to drive deals with all remaining union partners as parents expect action, not delays, Education Minister Stephen Lecce says in a statement. “We agree and will remain a positive and driving force at the bargaining table, advancing the priorities of parents and students.”

Meantime, the union representing public elementary teachers, which has also been in talks with the province this week, says it is suspending strike action in light of the COVID pandemic.
