Rain in the forecast for tonight could make the flooding around the Thames River even worse.
Environment Canada is calling for 10-20mm overnight through Sunday morning.
According to the most recent up flood update from the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, the Thames peaked in Thamesville around 7am Saturday, with water levels now slowly starting to decline.
However, with saturated ground and the Cornwall Creek already filled with flood waters backed up from the Thames, any rainfall may increase the water level again.
Along the Thames through Chatham, the water has already exceeded the level reached during the flood of 1977, with another six inches to a foot expected in the next 12 hours.
High water levels can be expected on the Lower Thames into the middle of next week for areas through Chatham-Kent and Lakeshore.
Residents are reminded, once again, to take extreme caution near waterways with slippery banks and fast-moving water filled with debris.
Emergency crews continue to keep an eye on the situation, and the John D Bradley Convention Centre remains open as an emergency shelter for those in need.
