A Thamesville man has been fined after he was caught hunting without a licence.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said John Mysko of Thamesville was taking part in a controlled deer hunt in Chatham-Kent on November 7, 2025, when a conservation officer conducted a compliance check and found that Mysko did not have a valid deer licence. He was also found to be using a tag belonging to someone else.

Following an investigation, the ministry found Mysko had falsely applied for a controlled hunt validation through another person’s licensing account. As a result, his deer was also seized during the investigation.

Mysko pleaded guilty on August 17, 2026, to making a false statement in a document, hunting deer without a licence, and possessing a void licence, among other deer-related offences. He has been fined $5,000.
