Theatre Kent is preparing to hit the stage with its latest offering, The Cemetery Club.
Directed by JC Wright, the heartwarming story focuses on three widowed friends, Doris, played by Lee-Ann MacNeil; Ida, portrayed by Lisa Faber; and Lucille, played by Jennifer McMonnies, who meet for tea each week before visiting their husband’s graves. Enter Sam the butcher, who adds another layer of intrigue. The three women share a poignant journey as they honour the past, learn to cope with their present, and whatever the future may bring.
The production also serves as Theatre Kent’s submission to the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) annual festival with adjudicator Alexander Galant on hand for Saturday night’s performance. Community theatre groups across the region are taking part in this year’s travelling festival with 17 productions on the adjudication schedule. The WODL Awards will be handed out at a dinner gala on Saturday, May 20.
The Cemetery Club runs Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday night at the Kiwanis Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at the Cultural Centre box office or online at cktickets.com.
