The Contentious Issue of Cutting Grass

To mow or not to mow – that will be the question around the virtual council table tonight.

The organizer of a youth football league in Chatham gained some public attention this month after being told by the municipality to stop cutting the grass at Lark Park.

Officials say Reynolds has ignored repeated requests over the last two years to stop mowing the lawn at the municipally-owned property.

Reynolds says it boils down to giving kids a safe place to play, even when the municipality failed to properly maintain the park.

In an information report to council being presented tonight, Chatham-Kent administration lays out in a 22-page report why they don’t want Reynolds to cut the grass.

Among the reasons the municipality gives to not have Reynolds cut the grass include, public safety and legal considerations.
