A beloved Broadway classic and a pair of Canadian comedies will be hitting the stage in Chatham over the next year.
Theatre Kent has taken the wraps off its 2025-26 season with three shows planned.
The local community theatre company will kick things off with a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” based on T.S. Eliot’s poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. The show will take place at the Chatham Capitol Theatre November 13-15 with a production team including director Jamie Johnston and musical director Tom Overton, who spearheaded last year’s highly successful performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Auditions will take place May 31, June 2 and June 4 at St Andrews Hall in Chatham.
Theatre Kent will shift to the stage at St Andrews Hall in March for a two-day run of The Royal Flush. Penned by Ottawa-based playwright Kate Jaimet and directed by Linda Schinkel, the story follows estranged sisters Melanie and Tassie, who inherit a cabin where their ne’er-do-well father may or may not have hidden a fortune in casino winnings.
In May, the local troupe will bare it all with a production of “Bare Bear Bones,” written by Elmira’s Michael Grant and directed by Brock MacKenzie. Empty-nesters Norm and Ruth look to put a spark back in their marriage as they return to a campground where they spent many happy summers. Hilarity ensues when they realize the formerly family-friendly site has become a nudist camp. Bare Bear Bones is set to run May 8 and 9 at the Kiwanis Theatre.
