Police have caught up with a suspect following a theft at a retail store in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man attended a St. Clair Street store on March 26, concealed merchandise before heading to the self-checkout area. The man scanned one item, but made no attempt to pay for another concealed item.
He was approached by store security but was not apprehended.
After reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The suspect, a 44-year-old Chatham man, was located and taken into custody on Grand Avenue West shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. He is now charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
The accused will answer the charges in court later this month.
