Crews continue to plug away at Chatham’s Third Street Bridge.

The span has been closed since May 3, 2021, as it undergoes a $14 million rehabilitation project, but Mayor Darrin Canniff says the project is back on schedule to reopen by July 22nd.

“They’re working hard to make sure the contractors are well aware that that’s the date we need it because we have some big plans,” Canniff says. “Looking forward to those festivities and getting (the bridge) open in about three weeks.”

Those planned festivities include a ribbon cutting and lighting ceremony on Friday, July 22nd and Bridgerama Day on the 23rd.

The rehabilitation project has been plagued with several delays over the last year, with the bridge initially expected to partially reopen to traffic in November of 2021.
