Thousands of Charges Laid Over Labour Day Weekend

Provincial Police laid thousands of charges in southwestern Ontario over the Labour Day weekend.

Officials say in the 13 West Region detachments between September 1st and the 4th, a total of 2426 charges were laid stemming from 2577 traffic stops.

1450 charges were laid for speeding, 128 for failing to wear a seatbelt, 54 impaired driving charges, and 31 for distracted driving.

Of those charges, 123 were laid by officers covering Essex and Chatham-Kent, the vast majority (111) of those for speeding.

In Lambton County, OPP laid 28 speeding charges, 8 for impaired driving, and 3 for improper seatbelt use.
