Three CK Residents Facing Weapon Charges Following 401 Crash

A two-vehicle crash in London has led to weapon charges for three Chatham-Kent residents.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Highbury Avenue after a passenger vehicle and a transport truck collided shortly before noon on Tuesday.

Two occupants from the passenger vehicle fled the scene while the third was injured in the crash and remained in the vehicle.

While attending to the passenger vehicle, officers spotted a firearm and arrested the remaining occupant. The other two occupants eventually returned to the scene and were also arrested. All three were taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

During a full search of the vehicle, six firearms and ammunition were seized.

A 34-year-old Wallaceburg man, a 39-year-old Chatham woman, and a 32-year-old man from Chatham are now charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo, possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with, and possession stolen property under $5,000.

The Wallaceburg man is additionally charged with impaired driving, careless driving, and failing to remain at the scene of a collision among other offences.

The trio remain in custody pending bail hearings.
