A special cheque presentation is honouring the legacy of a local farmer and first responder.
This past Saturday, September 14, representatives from BASF attended a celebration at the Three Oaks Cabin in Florence to hand over a cheque for $25,000 from the Growing Home competition held earlier this year.
The winnings will directly support mental health programming for farmer and first responder guests at Three Oaks. Recognizing that farmers and first responders experience elevated stress levels and are at high risk for developing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicidal thoughts, the Three Oaks Respite Cabin provides a safe, quiet space for guests to rest, recover and access mental health professionals and support programs.
Three Oaks Cabin was built in memory of Dalles Bergsma, a farmer and member of the Dawn Euphemia Fire Department, who died by suicide in 2020.
