Thursday Briefs: Wallaceburg Fire, McNaughton Drops Out, 402 Accident, H4H Coming To W-burg, Worst Roads & More…

 

Twitter supplied a big announcement this morning. Local MPP Monte McNaughton is dropping out of the Ontario PC leadership race. McNaughton will be throwing his support behind Patrick Brown.

A two-vehicle accident on the 402 at Oil Heritage Line had the west bound lanes closed earlier this morning. A 38-year-old from Flint Michigan collided with the guard rail and a Tractor Trailer, with the American thrown from his vehicle into the median. He was taken to hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash is on-going.

FIREFIGHTERS WERE BUSY IN WALLACEBURG WEDNESDAY NIGHT WHEN A FIRE BROKE OUT IN A STORAGE BUILDING ON A PROPERTY ON ELIZABETH STREET AROUND 8:30. FIREFIGHTERS FROM CHATHAM WERE CALLED IN TO HELP BATTLE THE FLAMES THAT MANAGED TO REACH A NEARBY HOME. THE DAMAGE ESTIMATE SO FAR IS 125 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES IN THE BLAZE. NO CAUSE HAS BEEN RELEASED YET.

A BIZARRE SCENE PLAYED OUT IN A COURT ROM IN MILAN THIS MORNING WHEN A MAN ON TRIAL FOR FRAUDULENT BANKRUPTCY OPENED FIRE, KILLING HIS LAWYER, A CO-DEFENDANT AND THE JUDGE. THE MAN THEN FLED ON A MOTORBIKE BUT WAS CAPTURED 25 KILOMETRES AWAY. THE PREMIER PROMISED A FULL INVESTIGATION INTO HOW THE MAN SMUGGLED THE GUN INTO THE COURT ROOM WHEN METAL DETECTORS ARE IN USE.
