Summer time in Chatham-Kent means a few things, and one of those things is ticks.

The critters invite revulsion and fear in people, and the lyme disease that one variety may carry only makes matters worse.

But Mike Hatten, with the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, says that only one type are potential carriers.

“The Black Legged tick is the one that can carry a bacteria that can give you Lyme disease, the only place that there is a population of those is in and around Rondeau Provincial Park.”

While the risk is low, Hatten says if you are bitten, the best course of action is to remove the tick with tweezers, get it identified, and visit your doctor.
