Time Change Affects Driving Behaviours

sunriseWhile many of us are enjoying the extra hour of sleep from the switch back to Standard Time, it’s not always such a good thing.

Figures show the end of Daylight Savings Time actually triggers a rise in the number of crashes on the road.

According to a recent insurance industry survey, 30% of drivers overcompensate for the extra hour of sleep by staying up later, and losing any potential benefit the time change may allow.

Researchers say that while 24% of drivers feel more alert the day after the time change, 19% actually feel worse-off.

Experts say regardless of the time change, try to keep your sleep cycle as regular as possible, and don’t assume you – or other drivers – will be more alert on the roads this morning.
