An investigation has confirmed that South Buxton and Petrolia were both hit by tornadoes last week.
A survey team from the Northern Tornadoes Project investigated reported damage following storms that passed over the region on Thursday.
Based on the evidence gathered, the group determined that a storm produced an EF1 tornado with an estimated max wind speed of 175 km/h in the South Buxton area.
The tornado, which started at 4:50 p.m., had a track length of 10.5 km and a max path width of 850 m.
A ground and drone survey completed on Friday documented roof damage to several homes and barns, along with damage to crops and trees.
An EF0 tornado was also produced by a storm in the Petrolia area, with an estimated max wind speed of 115 km/h and a track length of 2.91 km.
The tornado reportedly caused damage to a barn roof and a power pole, along with trees and crops.
No injuries were reported as either tornado.
The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded at Western University in 2017 to better detect tornados throughout Canada and improve severe and extreme weather understanding.
