Police in Chatham-Kent have arrested a woman wanted in connection with a carjacking in Toronto.
The Toronto Police Service said a man was driving his vehicle on October 17 when he was flagged down by a woman who asked for a cigarette. The man drove the woman to a parking lot in the Wilson Avenue and Ridge Road area and briefly left his vehicle.
When the man returned, the woman was sitting in the driver’s seat holding a knife. As the man tried to get the woman out of the vehicle, she pulled out a handgun and drove away.
Police in Toronto identified a suspect during their investigation and issued a warrant for her arrest.
The 24-year-old woman from Barrie was located and arrested by officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Service on Thursday. She is now charged with robbery with a firearm, robbery with an offensive weapon, and possession of property obtained by crime.
The victim’s stolen vehicle has since been recovered.
