A tractor parade this coming weekend will raise funds for the ongoing programming of a respite and support space for farmers and first responders looking for refuge from stress and anxiety.
Saturday’s Shifting Gears fundraiser will begin at 2pm just north of 1035 Shetland Road and wrap up at the Florence Community Centre, followed by a barbecue and social event.
Funds raised through the tractor parade and June’s Hard Miles Run will support ongoing programming for guests when they are staying at the Three Oaks respite cabin and following up with them once they return home. The programs are designed and led by registered therapists who understand the psychological difficulties faced by farmers and first responders.
Over 70 tractors took part in last year’s inaugural event, raising over $32,000 for the cause. This year, organizers are hoping to bring in $50,000.
The Three Oaks Cabin was built in memory of Dalles Bergsma, who lost his life to suicide in 2020. The family has since been working to raise awareness about mental health in the agriculture community.
