Traffic Lights Coming to Murray and Reaume

Mayor Darrin Canniff, Councillor Aaron Hall, and Director of Engineering Chris Thibert provide an update on the Lord Selkirk Bridge construction project on March 1st, 2019.

With an increase in traffic on Murray Street in Wallaceburg following the closure of the Lord Selkirk Bridge, municipal officials are working on a solution.

Director of Engineering Chris Thibert says traffic lights are coming to the intersection of Murray and Reaume.

“In the next two to three weeks, we’re going to have temporary traffic lights there. The current Pedestrian Crossing there – it’s called a Pedestrian Crossover – we’re going to be closing that and putting bags over it because at the temporary signals, there’s going to be controlled pedestrian access as well,” explains Thibert.

As for the bridge, Thibert says the work is being done in stages.

“They’re moving forward right now with the removals of the bridge. So everything is ongoing with the removals – they’re doing one half at a time so that they can have one half of the bridge open by May of this year and then the second half open and ready by August of this year. Overall project completion is August, and our goal is to accommodate WAMBO which we know is at the beginning of August,” says Thibert.
