Traffic Stop On Walpole Island Leads To Several Charges

Multiple charges have been laid following a police traffic stop on Walpole Island First Nation.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers stopped a vehicle on Ashkebee Road at around 1:30 p.m. on September 19.

Following an investigation the driver was arrested.

A 57-year-old Walpole Island resident is now charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, driving while prohibited, two counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a Schedule I substance, using a plate not authorized for the vehicle, driving without insurance, and driving without an ignition interlock device.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and will be impounded for 45 days.

The accused has since been released from custody and will answer the charges in court next month.
