Now that a new mayor and council has been elected, municipal administration is going to be working on the transition.

Although a new mayor and nine new councillors are joining the council table, the current elected officials will hold power until the new council is sworn in at the inaugural meeting on December 3rd.

Until then, a ‘delegation of authority by-law’ – also known as a lame duck government – has been in place for the past few months, since less than 75% of council was seeking re-election.

The by-law says expenditures over $50,000, disposition of property, and personnel decisions for corporate officers can be undertaken by council and will instead fall to the Chief Administrative Officer.
