Hydro One is looking for feedback from the public on the proposed St Clair Transmission Line project.
A draft Environmental Study Report went online earlier this week and is now open for review and comments from the public until December 7.
The transmission line will run from St Clair Township to Chatham-Kent, with the majority of the proposed line using the existing Hydro One corridor.
A physical copy of the environmental study report is also at the Chatham library, Corunna library, and the Wallaceburg Municipal Service Centre for review. The report can also be found on Hydro One’s website.
The report details public engagement received, the route selection process and identifies potential effects on the natural and socio-economic environments and measures Hydro One will use to avoid, minimize or restore any negative effects of the project.
Hydro One says the St. Clair transmission line project will increase the reliability and resiliency of the local energy supply, and increase economic growth in the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent area in sectors like agriculture and electric vehicle technology.
The proposed St. Clair Transmission Line is expected to be in service sometime in 2028.
The project is one of five new transmission lines Hydro One is planning, developing, and building in southwest Ontario to meet forecast energy demands.
