CK Public Health is celebrating the success of an environmental initiative aimed at enhancing the well-being of students and staff at local schools.
Through the “Tomorrow’s Greener Schools Today” initiative, the health unit in partnership with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has planted over 200 native species trees this year in elementary and secondary schoolyards across Chatham-Kent.
According to public health officials, well over 1,000 trees have been planted at area schools since “Tomorrow’s Greener Schools Today” began in 2013.
The goal of the initiative is to increase tree cover, provide shade, and protect children from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Students also actively participate in the tree planting process, gaining hands-on experience and learning about the importance of environmental conservation.
