With the help of a local couple, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation is ramping up its efforts to raise money for new medical equipment.

Through the month of March, every donation made towards the purchase of a new fluoroscopy machine will be tripled, up to $100,000, thanks to the generosity of Bill and Mary Dorssers and their family.

“We know that our hospital always needs support for important projects and equipment that aren’t funded by the government,” the couple said in a news release. “We are committed to helping out in any way we can, because our hospital does so much good for so many in our community, and we hope that folks from across Chatham-Kent will join us.”

The imaging technology provides real-time, moving X-ray images, which is essential for diagnosing illnesses, guiding medical procedures, and ensuring accurate treatment plans.

The hospital’s existing machine is nearing the end of its service life. Over 1700 fluoroscopy exams were performed at CKHA in 2023, supporting patients in a variety of hospital departments.

“Upgrading this technology will mean shorter wait times, improved accuracy, and better outcomes for patients in our community,” said CKHA Foundation President and CEO, Christine Mitchell. “Ensuring CKHA remains equipped with state-of-the-art technology like this fluoroscopy machine is so important for high-quality, patient-centered care.”

Previous CKHA Foundation fundraisers have already brought in roughly $330,000 towards the purchase of the $1-million piece of equipment. To donate or find more information, visit ckhaf.ca/fluoroscopy, call 519-436-2538, or visit the CKHAF office at 9 Ursuline Avenue in Chatham.
