Trucker protests against vaccine mandates spread to communities across Ontario this past weekend, including Sarnia.
Hundreds of vehicles, including tractors and farm vehicles forced the closure of the 402 leading up to the Blue Water Bridge to voice their opposition to all pandemic-related mandates.
A section of the highway was shut down for nearly nine hours, finally reopening shortly after 8 Sunday night.
The sound of honking horns echoed across downtown Toronto as a protest filled the streets around Queen’s Park. Police have said other than a few minor incidents, the event was largely peaceful as those gathered voiced their opposition to COVID restrictions from all levels of government.
Meantime, while the occupation in Ottawa has now entered its 10th day, over 450 tickets were issued Saturday and Sunday for various offences, including excessive noise and stunt driving, among other things, with police calling protesters unlawful and extremely disruptive.
The city’s mayor has now declared a state of emergency to reflect the danger and threat the encampment poses to the safety and security of residents.
