Two people have been arrested following an apparent cross-border smuggling attempt near the St Clair River.

Authorities say US Border Patrol agents were patrolling near Algonac, Michigan on April 4th when two people were spotted running away from the shoreline and getting into a vehicle.

Agents apprehended the subjects and determined that one subject was American, the other was a Canadian citizen.

During a search of the vehicle and the duffle bags, agents discovered and seized over 38 pounds of Ecstasy pills.

Record checks showed the Canadian citizen in custody had been deported to Los Angeles in 2020, and is now being processed as a Reinstatement of Prior Order of Removal.

The American citizen was turned over to St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and has charged with the delivery and manufacturing of Ecstasy.
